The ways that we talk about youth frame our actions.
Instead of using adjectives such as at-risk, homeless, displaced, undocumented, disabled or marginalized youth, put youth first and the situations they experience second, Not only do these adjectives dehumanize youth, they shift blame to young people. Using words that are asset-driven, human-focused, and center on the wholeness of the young person, is a better way to empower them to join in community actions to change the situation.
Please consider joining us on May 25th for our Rising Storytellers event at Golden Valley High School.
